William Schilletter Jr.

He was born in Tryon, N.C. on April 27, 1934 to the late Col. W. A. Schilletter and Ellen Hope Schilletter.&bsp; He was a graduate of Clemson University School of Architecture and served in the US Air Force as a pilot for 28 years. He served in Spain with the S.C. Air National Guard in 1961-62. His active duty time of 28 years commissioned service involved one short overseas tour and two long tours w/ 2 OLC. Other awards included the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, A.F. Commendation Medal w/ 1 OLC, A.F. O.S. Unit Award w/ 2 OLC and Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 OLC.
LTC Schilletter was a member of Golden Kiwanis with whom he enjoyed camaraderie.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Kelly Schilletter; his son, Doug Schilletter and his wife, Teri of Atlanta; two grandsons, Drew and Jimmy; his sister, Hope Derby of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of SCANG. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
