The discussion began after the city received an action request by a citizen who said something needs to be done about dog feces left on city sidewalks.
A broader discussion on the issue will likely take place during the city&squo;s next retreat, which usually occurs after the first of the year. The city could enact an ordinance, but the question of enforcement was said to be a potential problem for Saluda.
Commissioners said they will start with signs asking people to clean up after their own dogs with hopes that the problem will lessen.
During the dog feces discussion, a resident said another problem is people throwing out cigarette butts. Williams was also directed to look into the cost of containers to place downtown for people to place their cigarettes.
