Frederick Minard

Fred was born in Davenport, Iowa, to Clarence Minard and Carrie Nelson Minard. He received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in December, 1943. He received his Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University in June, 1949. He had an Upjohn Company fellowship throughout his graduate work.

Fred was a scientist in the department of general pharmacology at Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, Ill. He was a member of the honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Lambda Upsilon and the professional societies International Society of Biochemistry and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He also was the author of many articles for scientific journals.

He married Kathleen Kildee of Ames, Iowa, in 1944. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah Gordy and her husband Tom of Burnet, Texas, and by his son, John and his wife Maureen and their children Liz, Laura and Charlie of Milwaukee, Wisc.
