William Guilfoil

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Ryan and Blanche Sherman Tinius Guilfoil. He was an industrial economics graduate of Iowa State University, where he met his wife of 67 years, Wylma Louise Collins. They married in 1940. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving as an officer in the Air Force.

William was a dedicated husband and the gentle and committed father of William Jr. and Jon Scott. His life bore the example of generosity, love and faithfulness to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his family lived in the Chicago suburbs of Arlington Heights and Northbrook for 30 years, where he was an executive of the Allstate Insurance Company. He then retired to Hilton Head Island, S.C., in 1982. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon as well as numerous other duties. He was also a member of the Dolphin Head Golf Club and the Sons of American Revolution (SAR) Chapter of N.C. & S.C.

In January of 1997 the second retirement was made to Tryon Estates, Columbus. Locally Mr. Guilfoil was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ, Tryon, and the Tryon Country Club.

Surviving beside his wife are:&bsp; two sons, William M. Guilfoil Jr. (Judith) of Suwanee, Ga., and Jon Scott Guilfoil of Palatine, Ill.; three grandchildren, Shannon Kathleen Montana, Jessica Guilfoil Killeen and Meghan Louise Guilfoil.&bsp; Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Luke David Montana, Kathleen Anne Montana, William Michael Montana, Matthew Robert Montana, Joseph Arthur Montana, William McArthur Killeen and Judith Marie Montana.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008 in the auditorium of Tryon Estates, Columbus.

Internment will be in the Columbarium of First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island.
