Capt. John Hooper

Born in Saluda, he was the son of the late John and Annie Maude Hart Hooper and was the husband of the late Ruby Thompson Hooper, who died in 2007. Capt. Hooper was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII in the Pacific. He was a graduate of USC and UNC Chapel Hill Law School in 1954. Prior to moving back to Saluda, Capt. Hooper and his wife lived in Morganton, N.C. Capt. Hooper was a member of St. Luke&squo;s Anglican Episcopal Church in Landrum.

He is survived by one grandson, Daniel Jackson of Chapel Hill, N.C., and one granddaughter, Katie Budris of Arlington, Va.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, with Dr. Henry Patterson officiating.
