Born Feb. 1, 1918, in the Friendship community of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon S. and Grace Allen Pettit and the wife of the late Raymond B. Smith. A graduate of Asheville Normal College, she was a retired teacher with 33 years of service, having taught in Landrum, Duncan, and third grade at Pauline Glenn Springs Elementary School. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Danny R. Smith of Pauline and two sisters, Corrie &uot;Pete&uot; Lancaster and Eloise Morrow of Pauline.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 30 at Philadelphia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gideon Long and the Rev. Dewitt Clyde. Burial was in the church cemetery.
