Hipp named firefighter of the year in Tryon

The Tryon Fire Department hosted its annual Ladies Night on Saturday, March 1 at the Tryon Youth Center.&bsp; The meal was catered by Shane Blackwell of Mountain View Barbeque of Columbus, while Kim Pack, of the Tryon Fire Department, handled appetizers for the social hour.
Each year this event brings together members of the Foothills Fire Service Area Board, the Tryon Township Fire Commission Board, the Relief Fund Board, Tryon Town Council, Retired Firefighters, and current members of the Tryon Fire Department along with family members.
Awards were given to several people at the event, including:
Recognition of Medical Responder certification achievement:&bsp; Pam Waters, Stephen Pace
Recognition of EMT certification achievement:&bsp; Tracy Pace
Outstanding Service Awards:&bsp; Blake Arledge, Jack Hardin, Khalid AbuAdas, Ronnie Pack
Chiefs Award:&bsp; Tommy Stott
Special Appreciation Award:&bsp; Jim Fatland
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2007 Clarence G. Scoggins Firefighter of the Year award, which this year went to Lieutenant Johnny Hipp.
The Tryon Fire Department is under the direction of Chief Joey Davis.&bsp; The officers for 2008 are Bob Scoggins, Assistant Chief; James &dquo;Tank&dquo; Waters and Stephen Pace, Captains; Johnny Hipp & Greg McCool, Lieutenants; Dave Kuether, Training Officer;&bsp; Kim Pack, Safety Officer.
