Editor’s Note: Following is the agenda for the Polk County Board of Commissioner meeting scheduled for Monday, May 2. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the R. Jay Foster Hall of Justice, located on the second floor of the Womack building in Columbus.

Approval of Agenda – Agenda items may be added and/or deleted at this time.  Motion to approve.

 

Consent Agenda

A)    Approval of the amended April 4, 2016, regular meeting minutes – Minutes amended to correct a typographical error.

B)   Approval of the April 18, 2016, regular meeting minutes.

C)   Isothermal Planning & Development Commission – To reappoint County Manger Pittman to the commission.

D)   Polk County QZAB payment for Tryon Elementary – To approve the application approved by the Board of Education on March 14, 2016, to use lottery funds to pay the QZAB loan payment.

Motion to approve the consent agenda.

 

Citizen Comments

 

Presentation of the County Manager’s International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) Certificate – Mr. David Nicholson of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners will present County Manager Marche Pittman with the certificate recognizing Mr. Pittman as an ICMA Credentialed Manager.

 

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) Plan for FY 2016/17 – Kim Wilson, JCPC Chair, will present the plan.  Motion to approve.

Proposed Replacement of the Historic Courthouse Retaining Wall – Dave Odom of Odom Engineering will present the information.

 

May 16, 2016, Regular Meeting – Commissioner Owens asked that this item be placed on the agenda for discussion.

 

Property Search for the Proposed New Jail/Sheriff Department Facility & Future Courthouse Complex – Commissioner Gasperson asked that this item be placed on the agenda for discussion.

 

Manager’s Report – Budget work sessions.

 

Volunteer Board for Vote – Economic & Tourism Development Commission – 1 health care/medical/social services provider application, 1 health care/medical/social services provider two-year term vacancy.  Mill Spring Fire District Tax Commission – 3 applications, 3 vacancies.  Motion to approve.

 

Volunteer Boards for Review – Council on Aging – 1 application, 3 vacancies.  Harmon Field Board of Supervisors – 1 application, 1 vacancy.  Transportation Advisory – 1 application, 2 vacancies.

 

Commissioner Comments

 

Closed Session – Motion to go into closed session for the purpose of acquisition of property, G.S. 143-318.11(a)(5).

 

Return to Open Session – Motion to return to open session.
