Polk makes drug arrests following foot chase

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two men from Spartanburg, S.C. on cocaine charges, after one fled on foot at the welcome center in Columbus off I-26.

On Nov. 10 around 8:50 p.m., Sgt. Brian Atkins with the sheriff’s office attempted to stop a Ford Ranger truck for failure to maintain lane going west on I-26. According to sheriff’s office reports, the truck signaled as if it were pulling over but continued to drive for approximately a half mile then pulled into the North Carolina rest area.

The passenger of the vehicle exited the vehicle carrying a black bag and ran up the bank and into a wooded area.

Lt. Jared McFalls was behind Atkins and ran after the passenger while Atkins stayed with the driver, according to reports.

McFalls chased the passenger up the bank and subdued him.

The driver of the vehicle, Cedrick Antonio Curry, 43, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance, conspire to traffic cocaine, failure to heed light/siren and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to sheriff reports.

The passenger, Robert Neal Worthy, 41, was arrested and charged with conspire to traffic in cocaine, resisting public officer, trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance, according to sheriff reports.

Officers discovered marijuana on Worthy as well as found a bag discarded by Worthy that contained six small bags of cocaine and $140 in cash, according to reports.

The sheriff’s office K-9 “Kimbo” was utilized during the search of the truck where a crack cocaine rock was also found in the console, according to sheriff reports.

Worthy received a $150,000 bond and Curry received a $100,000 bond, according to sheriff reports.
