Five arrested for area break-ins​

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2014, the Columbus Police Department was dispatched to a suspicious persons call involving three individuals alleged to be carrying baseball bats and walking through the downtown area.  Upon locating the individuals, an arrest was made for going armed to the terror of the public. This began an investigation that revealed the three individuals had allegedly broken into a residence in Columbus and stolen items.  Two other individuals were then arrested for the break in and subsequent larceny.

The investigation continued into controlled substance violations at two different residences located in Columbus.  Two more people were arrested for drug violations as a result of the investigation.

A total of five people were arrested on multiple felony charges, and all of the stolen property was recovered.  A substantial amount of marijuana, along with multiple drug paraphernalia and two firearms were also seized during the investigation.  The following individuals were arrested:

Jose Rene Avila Guzman, 18, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering and felony conspiracy to break and enter.  Additionally, Guzman was served with a warrant for discharging a firearm within the city and injury to real property, from an unrelated case.  Guzman was held on a $5,600 secured bond and had his first appearance in court on Sept. 24.  His next court appearance is set for Oct. 15, 2014.

Erik Zachary Charping, 18, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the people, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony conspiracy to break and enter and felony conspiracy to commit larceny.  Charping was held on a $65,000 secured bond, and was out on bond for breaking and entering, drug violations and other offenses at the time of his arrest.  Charping had his first appearance in court on Sept. 24.  His next court appearance is set for Oct. 15, 2014.

Andres Cao Jr., 18, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony conspiracy to break and enter, felony conspiracy to commit larceny, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Cao Jr. was held on a $65,000 secured bond and had his first appearance in court on Sept. 24. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 15, 2014.

Andres Cao Sr., 37, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.  Cao Sr. was released after posting a $19,000 secured bond and had his first appearance in court on Sept. 24.  His next court appearance is set for Oct. 15, 2014.

Tamara Sue Cao, 35, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.  Tamara Cao was released after posting a $19,000 secured bond and had her first appearance in court on Sept. 24. Her next court appearance is set for Oct. 15, 2014.
