District One Schools and Mabry Middle School deeply regret the passing of Oscar Lee Brown III.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, students and colleagues his life touched over the years.

Oscar Lee Brown III, known as Buddy and Deacon Brown, came through District One Schools. He attended Inman Elementary, Mabry Junior High School and graduated from Chapman High School.

Brown graduated from USC Upstate with a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies.

District One Schools welcomed Brown from District Five Schools to Landrum High School in 2007 as a social studies teacher.

In 2008 he joined the faculty at Mabry Middle School, where he taught eighth grade social studies.

Out of respect to the family of Brown and the Mabry Middle school faculty and students, all Mabry Middle School evening events were cancelled for this week.

Marsha Clark, principal of Mabry Middle School, had this to say about Brown:

“He loved those kids and loved what he did,” Clark said. “You never saw Mr. Brown when he wasn’t going out of his way to make somebody’s day better and happier. We have lost a wonderful teacher, friend and role model. Our students will be better people for having someone like Mr. Brown in their lives.”
