Local fire departments cleared Tryon Elementary School after investigating an electrical burning smell this morning. The Tryon Fire Department was called around 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 and responded. The fire departments of Columbus and Saluda also responded to the school. The school was cleared around 10:50 a.m. with the Tryon Fire Department saying that the campus was checked and determined to be fine and that school maintenance was on scene.

Tryon Elementary School Principal Ott Sizemore left a message with parents explaining that an electrical smell was present in the courtyard area and that the Tryon Fire Department was called and responded within a minute with aid from Columbus and Saluda Fire Departments. Sizemore said after firefighters investigated for about an hour, it was determined that the smell came from another site and that everyone is safe.
