Denton high vote getter in Columbus

Columbus voters chose a newcomer as the high vote getter during the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election with Josh Denton receiving 81 votes, according to unofficial results from the Polk County Board of Elections.
Also winning seats in Columbus were the two incumbent candidates, Margaret Metcalf, who received 67 votes and Ricky McCallister, who received 61 votes. Tommy Melton fell short of winning a seat with 40 votes. Write-ins received four votes in Columbus.
Columbus Mayor Eric McIntyre retained his seat with 87 votes with no write-in votes received. Denton said he appreciates the support and the confidence of his supporters.
“I look forward to serving them and making the best decisions for Columbus,” said Denton. “Anyone with questions or concerns are always free to contact me.”
Metcalf thanked voters for their confidence in her and said it’s an honor to continue to serve Columbus. “If there are any concerns or questions the citizens of Columbus are welcome to call me.”
McCallister said he is looking forward to the next two years of serving the people of Columbus.
“Congratulations to Josh for being the top vote getter and thanks to the voters for their support of me,” said McCallister.
Candidates in the towns of Polk County are officially sworn into office during the councils’ December meeting.
