Landrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4873 held a commemorative program Sunday, Jan. 13 at Landrum’s Memorial Gazebo in Brookwood Park to honor area veterans.

Everyone from proud veterans to children gathered to remember the fallen.

Post Commander Charles Moore said, “The post wanted to honor WWII Veterans and POW and did not want to wait til Veterans Day.”

At the post’s highest point the organization had 96 members. With numbers steadily decreasing, the remaining members decided it was prudent to put in place two granite memorials at the entrance of the gazebo.

The memorial gazebo was designed and built by members; financing came from private donations. The gazebo was dedicated on Nov. 5, 2000.

Clayton’s Monuments of Landrum custom made the 4 ft. by 2 ft. marble memorials.
