Friends, old and new, Amy and Thor

I speak often of the great friends I have, both individual and as groups, who support my kids.  One group has been at it for four years and I value them beyond words and that group is Gibbs Welding.

Among other things they have been instrumental in helping me present my Bark in the Park fundraiser each year, which is no small task. Two ladies in particular are relentless in pulling those big guys around to help my cause. Amy is the mom of one of my favorite two-legged kids, Stan, who anxiously awaits each year to help Uncle Lennie at his fund raiser.

A few months ago Amy’s mother passed on and a short while after the sad event, Amy called regarding her mom’s animals. It goes without saying that I was more than willing to assist in any way I could. Her mom had four cats and one dog who was her long time companion.

“We’re finding homes for the cats,” Amy said, “but Thor might be a problem.”

“Tell me about him, Amy,” I asked.

“He’s a sweet old boy, Lennie, and he really misses mom.”

I learned that Thor was an 11-year-old Pit bull who had allergies and skin problems because of it.

“Where is he now Amy?” I asked.

“He’s at our house for now,” she said.

“I won’t lie to you Amy, this is a tough one, but you get him down to Landrum vet and we’ll work on his skin problems and allergies for a start. I’ll inform them that you’re coming and I’ll handle whatever is needed.”
