RUSSELL MIEROP: (D)

I feel the BOC should be at all times in support of business suited to Polk County. The BOC should also look for opportunities that would expand opportunities for entrepreneurs, as well as home-based business. Furthermore, local regulation should enhance the opportunity for home-based businesses and locally-suited business. When the opportunities arise for large manufacturing type employers in the county, I would be in support of incentives that the county could match with funds from Raleigh from the state, as recently done with CYP and the One North Carolina Grant.

TOM PACK: (R)

I think I have answered the question of my stand on economic development in my answers to other questions.  But let me make it clear that I don’t want to let development run wild, but that we need to foster an environment where we can have growth.

The incentives that I would offer would be based on a case-by-case basis on what the benefits would be to the citizens of the county. I think that we have a lot going for the county in respect to the major highways, fiber optic and work force.  We just need to work on reducing the regulations and to work on getting investors to have building sites and building shells ready to offer.
