Upstairs Artspace showing silent movies

Published 3:30pm Monday, September 10, 2012

From now until Sept. 15 the Upstairs Artspace is exhibiting works of art from private donors that are available for purchase during the gallery’s annual Silent and Live Auction fundraiser. To mark the occasion, the gallery is showing a series of three silent movies from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11, 12 and 13.
“Bring a sandwich. We’ll provide a beverage,” says Upstairs board member Jean Pettigrew. “Come have a silent time, and a laugh or two.”
The movies — Charlie Chaplin, The Keystone Cops, and Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie, will be shown downstairs at the Upstairs. There is no charge, although the nonprofit gallery always accepts donations.
Visitors will also be able to take a look at the art awaiting bids in the Silent and Live Auctions. The Silent Auction continues until the conclusion of the Live Auction, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. There will also be a reception before the auction, starting at 5 p.m. For further information call the Upstairs: 828-859-2828.
