Rose Hamid was recently removed from a Donald Trump rally while wearing a T-shirt that read, “Salam, I come in Peace.”

The Congregational Church of Tryon is excited to welcome Rose Hamid to speak at Tryon UCC on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 12:30. Rose was thrust into the international spotlight after she stood in silent protest at a Donald Trump rally earlier this month wearing a hijab and a T-shirt reading “Salam, I come in Peace.”

Rose is a Muslim American of Palestinian and Latin descent and was born in Buffalo, N.Y., grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been living in Charlotte since 1987. She grew up in the Catholic tradition but chose to follow Islam when she started her family.  She has been married for 33 years, has three children, Suzanne, 28, Omar, 26, Samir 24.

Rose’s cause is peace and understanding. She is a frequent speaker about topics such as Islam and the role of women in Islam and is a guest columnist for the Charlotte Observer, writing monthly columns. Rose believes there is more that unites us than divides us.

She wants you to bring all your “politically incorrect” questions, so we can expect a lively interfaith dialogue.
