Foothills Equestrian Nature Center will offer their second bird walk of the year on Thursday, May 12, at 8 a.m. This great program is open and free to the public. We always welcome folks of all skill levels to join us on our walks, from first time birders to advanced birders. Join us for another “walk in the woods” lead by Simon Thompson, local ornithologist, this month as we explore the FENCE property for about two hours.

May is often a beautiful month to go birding. Most of the northbound migrants have moved through, except for a few late Blackpoll Warblers. All of our summer-resident birds should be on territory and singing. All three of the mimic-thrush family nest at FENCE; Gray Catbirds sing their jumbled song from the dense thickets and Brown Thrashers sing their beautiful song from atop a high perch.

The last of the trio, the Northern Mockingbird, also sings from an exposed perch, but prefers open habitat around buildings and homes. Come learn about these and many other birds at FENCE this spring.
