Tryon Arts and Crafts School’s next bi-monthly Crafts and Conversation lunchtime lecture will be held on Thursday April 14, between 12 and 1 p.m. at 373 Harmon Field Road and will feature artist Dale McEntire, speaking on Merging Materials Combining Color and Form. The series was developed to provide an inside look into the art of craft for all within our community. Audience members are invited to bring lunch or a snack and beverages will be provided.

At the lecture, Dale will present a series of images of sculptures and explain how they originated in concept. He will also discuss the process and challenge of bringing materials together for a unified form that expresses the artist’s concept, and about the materials themselves and their own unique characteristics. From June 8-10, Dale will also be teaching an exciting new workshop at Tryon Arts and Crafts School called Introduction to Stone Carving.

Dale has been involved in the visual arts since his training at Mercer University, and has continued to evolve as an artist through private studies in the U.S. and Europe, and training at Penland School of Craft. His interest in the spiritual essence of nature can be seen in his use of color and form. He produces oil and pastel paintings as well as sculpture (stone, steel, glass and bronze) out of his studio in Saluda.

He is represented by galleries in Western North Carolina and the Southeast, and for the past several years has been selected to participate in public art events and outdoor sculpture shows. Dale is a member of Mountain Sculptors in Asheville, N.C and Tri-State Sculptors. He teaches painting at Isothermal Community College.
