Marvin J. Wagner

Mr. Wagner was one of six children born in Polk County to Walter S. and Adele Shehan Wagner. After graduating from Western Carolina University, Marvin served the students of the Polk County School system for over 30 years. Mr. Wagner was a member of the Columbus Baptist Church.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jones Wagner; a daughter, Kimberly Hammett of Boiling Springs, S.C., and her two children, Adam and Brianna; a son, Chad Wagner, his wife Donna and their two children, Vance and Cameron, also of Boiling Springs, S.C. Marvin (Pete) is also survived by two brothers, Jack Wagner of Lake Lure, N.C., and Woodrow Wagner of Valdosta, Ga., and one sister, Marlene Wilson (Harold) of Lake Lure, N.C. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ellen McDowell and Juanita Smart.

A memorial service will be held at Columbus Baptist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at 4 p.m. Rev. Robert (Bobby) Capps will be officiating the ceremony. Visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, N.C. 28722. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff at the Smith Phayer Hospice House. God has blessed them with a special gift of service to his people.
