TRYON—The Tryon Daily Bulletin has received statewide recognition from the North Carolina Press Association for its journalism, placing in two categories in the annual NCPA Editorial and Advertising Contest.

The Bulletin earned second place in the Breaking News Coverage category and third place in Investigative Reporting.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by the NCPA, specifically in these categories,” said publisher and editor Jeff Allison. “We work hard to keep our readers informed. We’ll always be a primary source of light-hearted stories and community news, but in terms of covering hard-hitting subjects, we have a long history of excellence there, as well.”

The Bulletin’s coverage of the Black Cove Complex wildfires in March 2025 earned second place in the Breaking News category. Its report titled “Ex-Polk GOP treasurer convicted for trespassing at party headquarters” placed third in Investigative Reporting.

“Our small staff put a lot of effort into covering the wildfires, with regular evacuation and containment updates on our website across multiple days,” Allison said. “With an ongoing, fast-moving story like that, there were definitely challenges. As always, we were determined to get the word out in a timely, accurate manner. I’m very proud of our team.”

Entries were judged by members of the Nebraska Press Association and volunteers from across the country.
