TRYON—Musicians from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will appear in a program entitled “Spanish Journey” on Tuesday, February 10, at the Tryon Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
Under the leadership of Co-Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center presents chamber musicians in a wide-ranging variety of concerts. Drawn from a large group of musicians, each ensemble presents an ever-changing repertoire of chamber music. CMS musicians have appeared in Tryon in previous seasons, most recently in 2019.
The ensemble of talented musicians performing at this concert includes soprano Vanessa Becerra, who has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, the Washington National Opera, and other notable venues.
Guitarist Jason Vieaux is acclaimed for revitalizing the classical repertoire and has received rave reviews for streaming Bach’s works for violin arranged for guitar.
Pianist Soyeon Lee has won prestigious prizes, performed with notable conductors and orchestras, and is on the faculty of The Juilliard School, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and the Bowdoin Music Festival.
Cellist Clive Greensmith is a former member of the Tokyo String Quartet and a founding member of the Montrose Trio. Concert-goers will recall that Mr. Greensmith appeared with the trio in Tryon in 2017.
Violinist Kristin Lee has performed with prestigious orchestras in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall), and the Kennedy Center. She is the recipient of prizes and grants, including an Avery Fisher Career Grant.
“Spanish Journey” promises to be an enchanting evening of Spanish music and culture. Becerra will perform songs in the Spanish style by composers Fernando Obradors, Manuel de Falla, and Joaquín Rodrigo. Vieaux will perform a guitar solo composed by Isaac Albéniz and accompany Becerra.
Piano, violin, and cello combine to perform three original works in the Spanish style by Enrique Arbós and Joaquín Turina’s Trio No. 2. Piano and violin will perform “Romanza andaluza” by Pablo de Sarasate.
