LANDRUM—The Landrum Rail & History Museum is currently seeking volunteers to donate time and help as a docent for the attraction.
Built inside the Pacolet River railcar, the museum is located at the Historic Landrum Depot at 211 North Trade Avenue. Years ago, this very passenger car regularly passed through Landrum, carrying vacationers, businessmen, and other travelers to various destinations in the Southeast.
Since the historic Pacolet River arrived in Landrum in 2018, the Museum Interim Board has worked to fully restore it and turn it into a history museum for the greater Landrum area. On April 24, 2024, the Landrum Rail & History Museum held its grand opening and began opening to visitors on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in June. Since then, organizers say there has been very good attendance.
“If you can give an occasional two hours of time on Saturdays, we sure could use you and would appreciate your service,” said Landrum Rail & History Museum Board Member Carol Browning. “It is an opportunity to meet and greet folks and promote our community.”
The museum’s clear organization of photographs, panels, and artifacts captures guests’ attention. Visitors follow a loop of panels thoughtfully categorized in chronological order. Volunteers are now needed to “climb aboard” and help share the history of Landrum.
If interested in volunteering at the museum, contact Ezekiel Carsella at zekecarsella@gmail.com or Browning at carolbrowning72@gmail.com to share your contact information and the best time to reach you.
