TRYON—On Wednesday evening, the Tryon Christmas Parade brought holiday cheer to the town. The Tryon Fire Department hosted the 70th annual parade, which showcased an impressive lineup of 52 participants and captivated hundreds of onlookers along Trade Street.
Staging for the event commenced in the New Market Rd/Godshaw Hill community, with participants making their way through the heart of Tryon. This year marked a shift in tradition, with the decision to hold the parade annually on the second Wednesday in December from now on with a new start time of 6 p.m. The new start time allowed more families to participate after work and provided a perfect opportunity to admire the sparkling lights adorning the floats.
Organizations and various clubs in the area decorated vehicles and trailers, joining forces with churches, fire departments, and community members to create floats. Other groups participated on foot, handing out candy to the crowd.
After the parade, families gathered at Tryon Station 27, where they were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoyed a festive atmosphere. Children received goody bags generously provided by the Tryon Fire Department, Miss Tammy’s, and holiday headgear from The Bottle.
Steven Siler, parade director and public information officer for the Tryon Fire Department, shared his thoughts on the successful event.
“The weather, although breezy and chilled, was a perfect backdrop for the 70th Annual Tryon Christmas Parade,” he said. “Hundreds of folks lined Trade Street to cheer on the parade and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. We even saw some firefighters trying to sneak in their requests to Santa back at the station. A huge thank you to all the participants and TDDA for such a heartwarming and iconic event.”
With a spirited turnout, this year’s parade was a wonderful reminder of the community’s festive spirit and dedication to celebrating the holiday season together.
