LANDRUM—The Landrum Farmers Market is celebrating its second Winter Market & Holiday Craft Fair, with four events scheduled for November and two in December. The market features many local vendors offering crafts, fresh vegetables, meat, and more.
One of the highlights of this year’s Winter Market is the exclusive Landrum Farmers Market Christmas Ornament, designed by Crafty A’s from Columbus. It is available for $8 at the front desk. All proceeds from the ornament sales will go towards ASAP’s Farmer’s Fund.
Kristen Johnston, the assistant manager of the market, emphasized the importance of ASAP’s Farmer’s Fund.
“This fund provides essential financial support and grants to farmers who have not received federal funding or do not qualify for other grants,” she said. “With 30% of farmers being new and farming for less than ten years, many find themselves in this situation.”
In addition to its fundraising efforts, the market welcomed representatives of the P3 Animal Assistance Foundation, who offered tickets for a Cat Quilt raffle, running throughout the month, priced at $5 each. Proceeds from the raffle will support the foundation, and tickets can be purchased at their store or online. The drawing for the quilt will take place on December 20.
Market vendors were also looking to raise funds to help others, including 8-year-old Joel Shealey, who operates Joel’s Sweet Tooth booth. Known for his heartwarming story of raising funds for a trip to the San Diego Zoo, Joel is now directing the proceeds from his homemade treats to help a family in need purchase Christmas gifts for their children after the impact of Helene.
The Winter Market’s shift in focus from produce to crafts attracted numerous talented crafters and artists. Gail Carlee, a retired teacher and watercolor painter, showcased her original greeting cards and handpainted items.
“I’ve tried other markets, and this is one of the best. It’s more reasonably priced than most and has a wonderful customer base,” Carlee said.
The Landrum Farmers Market occurs on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon. Additionally, the market will host a Santa Breakfast on December 14, with meals priced at $3 for kids and $6 for adults, promising a festive start to the holiday season.
The market is held at the Joe Cunningham, Jr. Market Pavillion, located at 221 W. Rutherford Street.
