COLUMBUS—The Meeting Place, in collaboration with the Polk County Library, has officially announced the launch of its annual ‘Christmas Cheer on Wheels’ initiative for 2024.
The Christmas Cheer on Wheels program focuses on collecting items to fill shoeboxes, which will be distributed to individuals and families during the holiday season. This heartwarming event aims to spread joy and support to those in need within the Polk County community. Donations will be accepted through December 18 at 4:30 p.m.
While all items, such as empty shoeboxes, are welcome at any time, specific items will be highlighted each week as follows to help guide contributors:
- November 4-8: gender-neutral soap/bath wash and washcloths
- November 12-15: toothbrushes and toothpaste
- November 18-22: puzzle books and pens
- November 25-27: sugar-free candies, chocolates, and snacks
- December 2-6: gender-neutral stocking stuffers, such as flashlights, games, knick-knacks, mugs, small decor items, and ornaments
- December 9-13: gender-neutral socks
Individuals interested in filling their own shoeboxes can simply take an empty shoebox and wrap the top and bottom separately, then fill it with new, unopened gifts. Deliver the filled shoebox to the Meeting Place (75 Carmel Lane, Columbus), open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or the Columbus Public Library (1289 W. Mills St, Columbus).
Preparations for distribution will commence on December 23.
“Your kindness means the world to us and to those we serve,” organizers said.
