Although Halloween is still over six weeks away, almost every store, from discount to full price, is loaded with all sorts of decorations for inside and outside our homes.
Before we open our pocketbooks, I would like to point out a few things, some of which could save a few lives, most of them creatures.
That netting that we blithely drape all over our homes, trees, and shrubs frequently catches birds, bats, and other animals, which then die attempting to escape horrific deaths.
Those cheap costumes that we purchase for our children come from China, are made from toxic materials, and end up in landfills all over the country after one or two uses. They are also made by slave labor.
Please consider re-educating your children that being good stewards of the earth and its animals includes scaling back or eliminating purchasing things like the above for what should be just one day in the year.
The world will thank you, and so will your pocketbook.
