COLUMBUS—The NC Co-Op Extension at 79 Carmel Lane in Columbus has welcomed a new addition to its team with the hiring of Lindsey Edwards as a Family and Consumer Science Agent. In her role, Edwards will develop, lead, and teach educational programs that focus on promoting healthy choices, nurturing families, and creating healthy homes and communities.

“From my time at Polk County High School until now, I have loved this community and am honored to be able to serve in a new capacity with North Carolina Cooperative Extension as the new Family and Consumer Science agent for Polk County,” Edwards said.

Edwards brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University in Family and Consumer Science and a Master’s from Western Carolina University in School Administration. She previously taught Family and Consumer Science at PCHS for ten years and served in an administrative role within the Vocational Education Department for the past three years.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to my community through public education in this new capacity. I am very passionate about learning and equipping our community with practical skills that can save money, enhance culinary abilities, and improve nutrition knowledge,” Edwards added.

Seeking input from the community, Edwards invites everyone to complete a form available from the NC Co-Op extension to help tailor the programs to best meet the needs of the community. The form is accessible on the co-op’s website.
