North Rowan grabbed early control Friday of its second-round 1A girls basketball playoff game with Polk County and pulled away to hand the Wolverines an 80-41 setback in Spencer.
Polk County, reaching the second round for the first time since 2015, ended its season at 16-11. The Wolverines lose just two seniors, Brianna Gray and Bianca Pitts, from this year’s squad.
The Cavaliers (25-3) grabbed a 22-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, then hit five of their 12 3-pointers in the second period to build a 46-22 lead at the break. Only 14 games are recorded in the NCHSAA record book with a team hitting more than 12 3-pointers.
Catawba-bound Bailee Goodlett led North Rowan with 20 points, with Brittany Ellis and Dasia Elder each adding 18. Elder had six 3-pointers.
Kylie Lewis led Polk County with 14 points, with Bailey Staton adding 13. Kiera Littlejohn finished with eight points, with Mia Bradley scoring six.
