The ending of the annual Polk County High School Athletic Fundraiser golf tourney didn’t stun many who participated.

“It’s no surprise his team won,” one player said with a smile.

He would be Brian Jones, and he and teammates Will Ballard, Marc Ballard and David Foster posted a net score of 52 to take top honors in the fundraiser at Links O’Tryon.

The Jones team also posted the low gross score with a 56.

A picture-perfect afternoon greeted the field, each taking part to help raise funds for Polk County’s athletic programs. More than 50 players teed off in a shotgun start on the Links course.

The team of Todd Murphy, Wade King, Billy Alm and Josh Money placed second with a net 53.

Three members of Polk County’s boys golf team – Casey Beiler, Avery Harden and Reilly Yoder – teamed with Andrew Beiler to shoot a gross score of 57, the day’s second-lowest.

Lisa Kurjan finished closest to the pin on holes four and seven while King was closest on the 12th hole and Charley Dusenbury had the best shot on the 15th.
