COLUMBUS–Have you ever wanted to learn about your very own Polk County Historical Museum? Is history your thing and you feel the urge to tell others? If you answered at least one of these two questions with a yes, you should participate in one of the three docent training opportunities in the month of June. The Polk County Historical Association Board is pleased to offer these to potentially new volunteers and members of the community.

The training will be a two-hour session offered three times: June 1 from 1 to 3 p.m., June 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and June 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.

According to chief docent James Metcalf, the training will be for new volunteers or folks who may have served as a docent in the past and now only want a refresher. 

“We’ll go over the museum protocols and give a great overview of what is available inside the Polk County Historical Museum,” said Metcalf. 

The museum is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are needs for new docents each of those three days.

Anyone who wants to participate should simply show up on one of the three dates in June. The Polk County Historical Museum is located at 60 Walker Street in downtown Columbus.
