POLK COUNTY–The Foothills Humane Society is hosting a Virtual ‘Baby’ Shower on June 3, to raise funds, donations and awareness for the many kittens and puppies under the age of 6 months who are in need of forever homes. The Virtual Shower takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on their social media sites.

“The idea for the virtual shower came from one of the society’s dedicated volunteers, who proposed the concept during a lunch meeting,” said Foothills Humane Society Executive Director Kat Hamilton. “The organization currently has 71 kittens and 32 puppies who are eagerly waiting to find their forever homes.”

In addition to the shower, the Foothills Humane Society is also encouraging pet owners to spay and neuter their pets. This practice is crucial in reducing the number of unwanted and stray pets in shelters. Spaying and neutering pets has numerous health benefits and prevents unwanted litters.

To help pet owners spay and neuter their pets, the Foothills Humane Society offers a program that provides Polk County residents free vouchers for altering their pets and microchipping and rabies vaccinations if they are low-income or receive any government assistance, and those who don’t qualify can purchase a low-cost voucher.

This is not the first virtual event hosted by the Foothills Humane Society. The organization also held a successful Make Believe Ball at the end of last year and plans to hold more virtual events in the future, as they realize that people have busy lives, and a mix of in-person and virtual events can help raise more funds for the pets they serve.

The Foothills Humane Society always needs volunteers of all ages, and interested individuals can visit their website or email them at volunteer@foothillshumanesociety.org for more information. Volunteers can help with various tasks at the shelter, such as cleaning dishes, filling enrichment toys, doing laundry, socializing cats and walking dogs. The organization also encourages volunteers to join them at community events, where they educate the public on proper pet care and their mission within the community.

Additionally, fostering pets is an excellent way to help the Foothills Humane Society, as they are in need of both short-term and long-term fosters for pets of all ages. Fostering provides insight into what a pet might need in their forever home and helps prepare them for their adoption. Those interested in fostering can email FHS at foster@foothillshumanesociety.org.
