TRYON–The Tryon International Film Festival held a competition to design its 2023 poster and has released the winning submission for this year’s festival.

The festival is the signature event of the Polk County Film Initiative, and the submission of Tryon artist Laurie Sullivan was selected for the poster’s artwork.

“For my entry in this competition I wanted to use the shape of Tryon’s clock tower to create a design with film imagery,” says Sullivan, who’s worked as a graphic artist and art teacher. “The background is inspired by our rolling green pastures and the beautiful mountains. This is the ninth film festival, so I incorporated the number nine.”

Sullivan was one of six artists who are members of Tryon Painters and Sculptors and submitted their work for consideration. TRIFF partners with Tryon Painters and Sculptors to develop and select the poster.

“TPS is proud of its reputation in the community and is pleased we were able to work with TRIFF,” says Nancy Holland, Tryon Painters and Sculptors Board President. “TPS has been at the forefront of the arts community in Tryon for over 50 years and as such collaborates with other organizations such as TRIFF.”

The Polk County Film Initiative board of directors and executive director review and select a poster design from the works submitted by TPS members.

“Our festival team is very excited to have selected Laurie’s work,” says Beau Menetre, a PCFI board member and TRIFF co-founder. “Laurie captured both our small-town feel and the unique culture of Tryon.”

The poster image will be on the cover of the 2023 festival program, on festival banners and signage and distributed worldwide on social media platforms.

The 2023 Tryon International Film Festival will be held October 6-8. In addition to film screenings, the festival includes the new TRIFF Institute which is a series of educational workshops conducted by professionals in the film and television industry.
