The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina has released its 2023 regional scholarship winners and Lake Lure Classical Academy is proud to announce that senior Maija Zidek was selected as a recipient. Maija was selected as LLCA’s school nominee based on her academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and strong moral character. 

Zidek competed against other nominees from high schools in 29 counties in the WNC region and participated in a panel interview. Maiji was selected as a recipient of a $5,000 per year award for 4 years from the Clyde and Mildred Wright Endowment Fund. 

This fund was established in 1995 to assist students throughout the WNC mountain region with the soaring costs of higher education. The Wrights created these scholarships to encourage and assist students motivated to reach their full potential through education.

Maija is the daughter of Tarja Pollari of Rutherfordton; Maija plans to attend the University of Miami in Florida to study Marine Biology and Ecology at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
