Lady Cardinals softball season ends with playoff loss

LANDRUM–The Landrum Lady Cardinals softball team’s playoff hopes have come to an end with a loss to the Strom Thurmond Rebels in the District 3 bracket of the 2023 SCHSL Softball State Championships. 

The Lady Cardinals began their playoff journey as the 2nd seed in District 3 and faced off against the Ninety-Six Wildcats in their first-round matchup. Despite putting up a strong fight, the Cardinals were unable to secure a victory and lost the game by a final score of 8-5. 

However, Landrum was granted another chance at the playoffs in the double-elimination tournament and faced off against the Keenan Raiders in the elimination game. The Cardinals dominated the match and won by a score of 17-2, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Their next matchup was against the Strom Thurmond Rebels, who had a stellar 20-3 record. The Cardinals put up a valiant effort but were ultimately unable to secure a win, losing the game 3-2 and ending their playoff run. 

The Ninety-Six Wildcats would go on to win the District 3 bracket and advance to the next round of the playoffs. The Lady Cardinals finished the season with a 4-6 overall record.
