‘Climb to Conquer Cancer’ cycling fundraiser sees $7k for Gibbs Cancer Center 

 

TRYON-An annual cycling event that raises funds for the fight against cancer recently raised $7,000 for the Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg. 

On April 29, the Climb to Conquer Cancer saw droves of cyclists pedal up and down Hwy. 176 from Tryon to Saluda, raising thousands in monetary donations for the Gibbs Cancer Center Survivorship Program in the process. This was the 13th year the fundraiser took place. 

Organizer John Cash was thrilled with the outcome of the event. 

“We live in such an amazing, giving community,” Cash says. “We are so thankful for all who donated.” 

Altogether, over $125,000 in funds have been raised to fight cancer through the years thanks to this annual event. Cash, who lost both of his parents and his sister to cancer, began the fundraiser after getting involved with the Gibbs Cancer Survivorship Program.   

“We made 10 trips up and down, about 80 miles total,” Cash said Wednesday. “We want to thank Dane at Caro-Mi Restaurant for hosting us, and Domino’s Pizza in Landrum for helping us feed the riders.”
