Madison racked up runs in every inning Wednesday, taking a 17-6 victory over Polk County in a non-conference baseball matchup in Marshall.

The Patriots improved to 14-8 with the win while the Wolverines dropped to 8-14.

How it happened: Madison took advantage of six Polk County errors, seven walks and a pair of hit batters while totaling 11 hits.

The Patriots scored three runs in the first and second to build a 6-0 lead, only to see Polk County answer with a four-run third. Avery Hensley singled to open the inning, followed by Gunnar Alm’s two-run homer. With two outs, Angus Weaver was hit by a pitch, and Karson Scruggs drilled another two-run blast to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Madison again scored three runs in the bottom of the third, but Polk again answered. Hensley singled with two outs before Alm hammered his second homer of the evening, a two-run blast to center, to cut the margin to 9-6.

But the Patriots exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth, seven of those coming with two outs, to thwart any further hopes of a Polk rally.

At the plate: Alm finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, with Hensley 2-for-2 and Scruggs 1-for-3 with two RBI. Mason Beiler added a base hit.

Next up: Polk County will close its regular season on Thursday, traveling to Brevard for a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup.
