Fine arts and martial arts unite in Saluda

SALUDA–Black Belt instructor Tarleton Brooks is well-recognized for her outstanding hand-painted scrolls. 

For more than 20 years her work has inspired martial artists worldwide, with beautiful depictions of the ideals and images of martial arts. 

Her work is on display at Mountain Karate in Saluda where she teaches and practices. Brooks is an Asheville native who studied at Art Center/Los Angeles and UNCA before embarking on her career as a painter, magician and performer. Originals and prints of her inspiring fine art have been seen in numerous places, including dojos around the world.

Her study of martial arts began in 1993. She teaches and continues her training at Mountain Karate, located at 54 Carolina Ave., in Saluda.

Mountain Karate leads the way in restoring Okinawan karate from its decline in the last generation, bringing its original depth and power back to life, in collaboration with members, colleagues, and friends around the world. 

Mountain Karate provides training classes for children and adults, from novice to professional, in Saluda, since 2017.
