MILL SPRING–The 149th Kentucky Derby takes place this weekend, and Beverly-Hanks Realtors and Bright’s Creek Equestrian have put together a Derby Day Watch Party to benefit Guiding Reins, the 501c3 non-profit out of Campobello that provides equine-assisted wellness programs for veterans and first responders.

The watch party will begin at 3:30 p.m. on May 6 at the Bright’s Creek Equestrian Center, located at 2222 Palmer Rd. in Mill Spring. Those who RSVP’d will be gathering to view the race coverage, pre-races, and the Kentucky Derby. Attendees will also be treated to a barbecue, a hat contest and a silent auction, with all the proceeds going to Guiding Reins.

Guiding Reins’ mission is to be there for those who work in high-stress careers, including military veterans and active-duty personnel, first responders, front-line workers, and their loved ones. Its equine-assisted wellness programs are designed to help participants learn how to cope with stress and trauma. Guiding Reins’  programs have proved effective in helping those struggling with emotional distress and help open up new pathways for healing.

“We are so appreciative of our partners at Bright’s Creek Equestrian Center and the wonderful sponsors of Beverley-Hanks Realtors for hosting such a fantastic event,” says Guiding Reins founder Diane Prewitt. “We are also grateful for all the generous businesses and individuals who donated items for the silent auction to support our equine-assisted wellness programs serving veterans, first responders, and their immediate family members to build their capacity to cope with trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD and more.”
