Tryon – David Roy Jackson, 74, of the Peniel Community, went home to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, April 29, 2023 at Pardee Hospital. 

A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, he was the son of the late Roy Columbus Jackson and Clois Champion Jackson. David was a graduate of Polk Central High School Class of 1969 and went on to serve in the United States Army and played in the Army Band. His life was all about gospel music. He sang with The Standards Quartet then the David Jackson Family. David served as music minister through the years at Beulah Baptist Church and Columbus Baptist Church. He was a member of Columbus Baptist Church. David retired from Metler-Toledo Scales in Inman and was an avid C.B. operator. 

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Jackson and a sister, Gloria Fisher. 

Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Inez Hall Jackson; three daughters, Heather Guffey of Mill Spring, Sonya Ballard (Travis) of Columbus and Gretchen Deel (Kevin) of Tryon; five granddaughters, Anastasia Ballard, Ariel Ballard, Sabrina Ballard, Bridget Ballard and Taylor Deel; one sister, Patricia Paris (Gene) of Flat Rock. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel. 

A service of congregational songs celebrating David’s love of gospel music will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Beulah Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Fletcher and Reverend Robert “Bobby” Capps officiating. 

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
