VOLLEYBALL: PCVC 16 squad takes third at Charlotte JVA Challenge

Polk County Volleyball Club’s 16 Shawn squad closed its spring season with a stellar showing at the 2023 Charlotte Junior Volleyball Association Challenge.

Competing in a 34-team field, PCVC finished third, reaching the tournament semifinals before falling to Carolina Union Volleyball Club 16 National, comprised of players from throughout the Charlotte area.

PCVC finished 4-2 for the tournament, its other loss a close 25-23, 25-18 setback in pool play to Sandhills 16 Moe.

Once in Gold bracket competition, PCVC won a pair of tough three-set matches, defeating Queen City Volleyball Academy 16 AK 25-12, 25-27, 15-11 and South Carolina War Eagles Volleyball Club 16U Gold 25-21, 23-25, 15-9.

That moved PCVC into the semifinals, where CUVC held on for a 24-26, 25-22, 15-9 victory.

Shawn Corhn coached the team. Players competing in the final event of the season included Hayden Blackwell, Ada Kelley, Zaelea Eller, Junie Mitchell, Charley Dusenbury, Reeve Carroll, Beija Olivari and Kylie Lewis.
