LANDRUM – Polk County’s kids are definitely alright.

No one but freshmen found the back of the net Friday for the Wolverines, leading Polk County to a 3-0 victory at Landrum in a girls soccer matchup of border rivals.

Polk (12-3-1) earned its fifth straight win heading into its final four games of the regular season, those beginning with Monday’s home matchup against Chase. That will kick off at 6 p.m. as the Wolverines also celebrate Senior Night in their final home regular-season match.

Landrum dropped to 7-7.

Leah Dotson, Charley Dusenbury and Gabby Savaia each scored for Polk, which controlled play from the outset. The Wolverines produced quality chances throughout the evening and, defensively, largely kept the Cardinals from doing the same.

Savaia set up Polk’s first goal late in the first half. Controlling the ball on the left wing, she flicked the ball backward with her heel, spinning past a defender and getting off a shot that was initially stopped, but dropped free just enough for Dotson to move in and poke the ball into the goal. That gave Polk a 1-0 lead that stood at the half.

Dusenbury doubled the score early in the second half breaking free on the left side and creating just enough room for a drive into the right side of the net.

Savaia then capped the scoring with 7:14 remaining, hitting a hard drive from outside the top of the penalty area.

The Wolverine defense held the rest of the way to give Polk County its first win over Landrum since 2017.
