Deuces indeed ran wild Friday at East Rutherford – mostly in the Cavaliers’ favor.

Polk County had a two-run rally in the third inning, but East Rutherford had four separate two-run innings, setting the stage for an 8-3 victory in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup.

East improved to 19-3 overall, 10-2 in conference play. The Wolverines dropped to 7-13, 1-9.

How it happened: East pushed across two runs in the bottom of the second, but Polk responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third to even the score.

Blaine Turner drew a leadoff walk before Gunnar Alm laced a double, moving Turner to third. Lawson Carter’s sacrifice fly scored Turner, with Alm moving to third, from where he scored on an East error.

The Cavaliers, though, answered with two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, building an 8-2 advantage.

Polk closed the scoring in the seventh as Alm doubled with two outs and scored on a Carter single.

At the plate: Alm finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two stolen bases. Alex Perry and Carter had Polk’s other hits in the game.

On the mound: Perry took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing seven hits with one strikeout and no walks. Avery Hensley pitched the sixth.

Next up: Polk County kicks off the final week of regular-season play on Tuesday, hosting Brevard.
