TRYON–Mail scams, phone scams, internet scams. Technology changes, but swindlers never give up.

When leaders of Tryon Presbyterian Church learned that a beloved member of their congregation had fallen victim to these criminals, they decided to raise awareness about the dangers. They quickly found that Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright’s office was eager to help.

Consequently, Tryon Presbyterian Church will host a Lunch & Learn presentation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, “Exposed to Scams,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2. Bring a sandwich and drinks, and a dessert will be provided. The church is located at 430 Harmon Field Road in Tryon.

Older adults are at particular risk of falling prey to scams. They can lose their savings with a keystroke on the computer. Detectives will explain the most common scams of 2023 to help people recognize a swindle before it’s too late. Following their presentation, they will answer questions.

There is no cost to attend, but please register at the Events tab on the church website, www.tryonpresbyterian.org.
