Resident treated for non-life threatening injuries

 

COLUMBUS–Sunday night at around 10:07 p.m., Columbus Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on Red Fox Rd. in Columbus.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke in the vicinity of an apartment building. After entering the structure, firefighters determined that there was a fire in between the floor joists of the apartment. 

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and confirmed that the apartment received minor damage and that it would still be livable. Red Fox Rd. was temporarily shut down due to safety concerns.

“Two occupied apartments self-evacuated prior to our arrival. After gaining access and with the assistance of mutual aid departments, the fire was contained to two floor joists between the first and second floors,” said Captain Michael Herman with the Columbus Fire Department. “Tenants are able to continue living in the apartments. Columbus wants to thank every department for their superior work in stopping the spread of fire.” 

One resident of the apartment was treated on the scene for burns to one hand. No transport was needed for medical attention. 

As of press time, the cause of the fire was undetermined, according to the Polk County Fire Marshal Office. 

Units on scene included Columbus Fire Department’s Engine 22 and Ladder 22, Tryon Fire Department’s Engine 27-3, Mill Spring Fire Department’s Engine 24, Green Creek Fire Rescue’s Engine 26, and Saluda Fire & Rescue’s Squad 23.
