Polk Middle bats sizzle in rout of Apple Valley

Score early, score often – that approach proved a winning formula Wednesday for Polk County Middle’s softball squad.

 

The Wolverines racked up nine runs in the first inning and went on to record a 17-5 victory over Apple Valley Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference matchup at Polk County Recreation Complex.

Polk Middle improved to 3-7 with the win.

 

How it happened: Ten different players had hits for Polk Middle as the Wolverines racked up 14 hits for the day.

 

Polk scored its nine first-inning runs with a combination of base hits and walks, with Kinsley Lancaster lashing a home rin during the rally. Emma Hayford had two hits in the inning, with Ava Evans and Amiyah Waters adding hits.

 

Lancaster added her second homer of the game in the second inning as Polk scored three runs in that frame. The Wolverines then added five more runs in the third, with Lucy Tessnair and Camdyn Israel-Garrett singling during that outburst and Sofie Abrahamsen adding a double.

 

At the plate: Lancaster finished 2-for-3, with Waters and Addison Queen each going 2-for-2 and Hayford finishing 2-for-4.

 

Abrahamsen, Aubrey Bell, Minda McComas, Israel-Garrett, Evans and Tessnair each added a hit.

 

Next up: Polk Middle will return to action today, traveling to Hendersonville Middle for a 4:30 p.m. game.
