SALUDA – Saluda Elementary turned a Tuesday evening into a celebration, welcoming students, family and community members for the school’s Science Fair, Century Walk and Art Show.

The Century Walk occurred as part of the school’s 100-year celebration. Those in attendance enjoyed looking at a century of history. This included pictures, fun facts about the school and town, trophies, toys and much more. Community members donated many items to the walk and joined members of the Polk County Historical Society in volunteering their time to assist. The school staff greatly appreciated the contributions of all.

The school also held its annual Art Show. Students, plus some faculty and staff, created their Fabulous Flamingos and displayed them in front of the school. Art teacher Wendy Berryhill helped assist the students with the flamingos and earned rave reviews and many thanks from all in attendance.

Finally, the Saluda gym was turned into a giant science lab for the school’s annual Science Night event. Ginger Rackley’s fifth graders had their science fair projects on display in the gym, and all kindergarten through fourth-grade classrooms worked to create a science display for the evening.

Fifth graders were also in charge of stations in the middle of the gym, and everyone enjoyed traveling from station to station. Brandi Drake, the school’s Title I teacher, had a Science of Reading activity for students and Stephanie Francis of Muddy Sneakers also had a station set up for students to enjoy.

Saluda Elementary received a grant from Duke Energy that helped provide materials for the stations.
