Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s been another crazy week and I seem to be going through funds as quickly as I raise them.

First came a call from a poor family with lots of children and two one-year-old cats. I’ve witnessed some of the most close-knit families from such scenarios. It seems Puffy and Rascal were both let out and got pregnant because they weren’t spayed. This is how cat colonies begin and believe me, often their lives aren’t fairy tales. Besides, my good friend Dana Mayer and Po’Kitties have more than enough on her plate.

So off to Landrum Vet went the two cats to be spayed and to remove the kittens before they were too far gone. It broke my heart but it was the best all-around solution. The cats are home and doing well and after discounts, my fee was $800.

Spanky, a 10-month-old Am-Staff that I have known since he was at a foster with a dear friend, has the sweetest disposition you’ll find in a bully dog. When I run across an animal like Spanky I marvel at how many people tell me, “He is so sweet.”  Spanky’s sister is adopted and Spanky has an adoption pending.

Spanky has the wobbles, which isn’t harmful and his owners are well aware of his condition. As luck would have it, while playing in the yard, Spanky swallowed a stone that was too large for him to pass and it settled in his stomach.  X-rays showed this to be the case when Spanky was off his food. Uncle Lennie was called in to assist if I could.  After learning what the approximate fee would be I okayed the procedure.

It was a time-consuming and extensive operation and after nearly $400 in discounts for my charity, $1,563 was my bill.

Once again, thank you all for helping some of these wonderful creatures that God lends to us. Donations can be made in my name or to Lennies’ Kids at 245 Ioka Hills Rd., Columbus, NC, 28722.

Thanks for listening.
