A rare confluence of four talents will share poetry at the next Live@Lanier program. Poets Kathy Ackerman, Cathy Smith Bowers, Greg Lobas, and Lee Stockdale will share readings and reflections. The event s scheduled for Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m

 

Kathy Ackerman’s 2019 book, “A Quarrel of Atoms,” was awarded the Lena Shull Prize from the North Carolina Poetry Society. She considers her latest work, “Repeat After Me,” a joyful act of resistance.

 

Cathy Smith Bowers, North Carolina Poet Laureate 2010-2012, has been published widely in The Atlantic Monthly, The Georgia Review, The Southern Review, The Kenyon Review, and Ploughshares. In 2017 she was inducted into the South Carolina Author’s Hall of Fame and has five published collections. 

 

Greg Lobas’s first book of poetry, “Left of Center,” won the 2022 Dogfish Head Poetry Prize. He has also won the Marjorie E. Peale Award and Peter Pan Award from the Poetry Society of SC.

 

Lee Stockdale has a long and happy history with Lanier Library, active with poetry 

competitions, festivals, and reading his works. His first book of poems, “Gorilla,” was 

published in August 2022. Last month, he won the United Kingdom National Poetry Prize.
